My daughter is having a very small wedding this summer and I was wondering if it was proper to have a get together some months after the wedding? Also this party would only be for my daughter's extended family, not his. Is this OK or should we just forget about having any kind of a party?

Re: Reception some time after small wedding

Dear Civ,
It is common for the family to host an informal reception months after a wedding when family is spread out. And, only one side could be present if this is the case. But, if his side is nearby, it could be perceived as impolite not to invite them.
The couple has the last say on this though.
Please remember that this is not a gift giving event and nothing should be mentioned about them on the invitation.
