     Sell tickets or invite guests?

Hi,

My dilema is that we have 200 guests coming for dinner and we have another 100 that we want to invite to the dance. We want to sell tickets to the dance and like that we will not hurt anyones feelings because we can only sell so many tickets. Many people told me that it is not the proper thing to do anymore and that it would be considered rude to sell tickets. Could you please tell me what is the proper thing to do?

Dear Cindy,

That would be incredibly impolite. Can you imagine being invited to a party and then asked to pay for it? Guests should never be asked to open their wallet. The simple rule is: you invite, you pay--the entire bill.

Plus, all guests are invited to the entire reception, not just part of it. All wedding guests are invited to the entire reception as well.

Please host the event you can afford to host.

Best wishes,
