Serving Hors D'oevres for an Evening Reception?

Hello, I did read a q & a similar to this, but my question is a little more detailed. I was wondering if it would be ok to just serve hors d'oevres if the ceremony was in the evening at like 7pm or 7:30. Couldn't I word the invitations something like this?: Ceremony at 7:00pm,
Evening Reception at 8:00
Cocktails and Hors d'oevres will be served
Or is this tacky too? Even if we had a large spread with shrimp and seafood platters, etc.? Maybe even include an ice sculpture!? I talked to my sister about it and she said that she has even been to a few of these and she didn't mind it. She did make the point that the younger generations might be more hip to it, but the older ones may not understand or like it. What do you think?

If your ceremony is going to be at 7:00/7:30 p.m., then a full meal should be served at the reception.

We do not mention the type of meal to be served on the invitations.
