Our wedding ceremony is 1:30pm with a reception at 5pm. (I didn't want that huge space in between but it was beyond our control. There are two other weddings at my church that day so I didn't have much of a choice when it came to picking a time. Yikes!) The cocktail hour is from 5pm-6:30pm. I know traditionally, a cocktail hour is used to entertain guests while pictures are taken but we will be taking pictures from 2:30pm-4:30pm. Is it acceptable for my FH and I to attend the cocktail hour? If not, do you have any suggestions as to what we should do in that time period? Thanks!

Dear Nervous Bride,
It would be best if there was something organized for your guests for the long period between the wedding and reception. This is a very long time and guests will wonder what they will do and if they should change attire for the reception.
You could attend the cocktail hour and be announced or set up your receiving line at this time. You could also use this time to thank the guests for attending.

Have you considered moving your cocktail hour and reception to an earlier time? Top Wedding Questions Forum Moderator - "Write your sorrows in the sand, your blessings in stone".

Is there a possibility of you moving up the reception hour? I understand you can not do anything about the actual wedding time. Rhonda Allen, Bridal Consultant New Beginnings Weddings

I called my reception site and the owner can't do anything earlier than 5pm because if the massive amount of cooking that they do on site. (We are having the most elaborate buffets. Tons of food.) We are kinda stuck :( Most of the guests are staying at the same hotel. Could I possibly set up a room with tea and coffee for guest while they wait?
