Tribute to Parents in the Wedding Reception

Hi! My fiance and I both want to have a 5-minute audio-visual presentation to honor our parents during our wedding reception. However, we're at a loss at which part of the reception to do this. For background, our friends are also preparing a 5-7minute audio-visual presentation to share our love story with the guests.

While my fiance thinks we should have our parents' AVP towards the end of the reception (so that it is near the part when we thank the parents and guests), I think we should show it during the earlier part of the reception, and before our own AVP. My thinking is that it is our wedding, and the last thing that people should be seeing is our AVP.

I would love to hear your expert opinion :)

Dear Esochua,

I have seen this done in many facets and purely the most effective is during the parents dances. Have it projected behind you as you dance with your dad and your groom dances with his mom, etc.

Otherwise it could be presented at the cake cutting when you are thanking your guests for coming, etc.

Dear Esochua:

I agree. The dances are the best part of the reception to show your tribute and I've seen the love story your friends have compiled played right at the beginning of dinner. Also, I have found that if you wait until the cake cutting to show you and your fiance's parents' tribute, you may lose some guests because they have to leave, or guests may simply lose interest and I'm sure you want everyone who is present to view the tribute.

If your reception incudes a sit down meal, we would suggest that your love story video be shown right after. Allow about ten minutes or so for the visual effects to do their magic, then announce the video presentation to honor your parents.

If you are using a DJ/MC, be sure to have them announce the audio visuals to ensure that everyone is "ready" to watch. Also, you could utilize their wireless microphone to make a special toast to your parents and right after the toast, play the audio visual.

Once that is done, DANCE, DANCE, DANCE!!!!!

Enjoy!
