     Wedding Reception Without Wedding Cake

Has anyone ever heard of a wedding without a cake? They are looking to have a dessert table, but I just don't understand the concept of no cake. Please help!

Some couples simply do not find the cake-cutting tradition meaningful, and so an increasing number are opting to go cake-less. I do remind couples who are choosing this path that while cake isn't meaningful to them, their guests (a majority at least) are expecting the tradition to be observed, and will be disappointed to some extent if it isn't included. If the couple is comfortable with that, they may opt to go 'sans cake'.

Dear Confuzedmuthr,

Many are now moving away from the wedding cake because it is so expensive, there really is no logical reason for it, and it isn't an etiquette rule to have one. The dessert table is fine.

Please remember that it is their wedding and they plan it. It is tempting as a mother to 'back seat wedding plan', but they can do well by themselves, unless, of course they ask for assistance. So, offer to assist and then back away quietly.
