What is a good time to host a wedding reception dinner in Georgia?

I live in southern Georgia and am planning an outdoor, summer evening wedding and reception at the same location. At this time, I thought about a 7:00 or 7:30 ceremony with dinner to follow (about 8:00; it doesn't get dark until around 9:00 and there is lighting). We live in the south and were planning a home-cooked, southern meal (grilled chicken, brown rice, beans). We are not planning on a DJ or bar, but hope to have fireworks around 9:15. Is this too late for a complete meal? If it is too late, what is considered 'okay' to fit this timeline?

Dear Fsuschoolpsych,

It would probably be best to begin the dinner earlier. Some may have to travel and wouldn't be able to eat earlier and waiting until 8 may be difficult. But, it isn't incorrect either. Many will be expecting something substantial.

If you want to host your wedding and reception at this time, perhaps hosting an informal welcome cocktail a half hour before your wedding would be a good idea. You could offer small hors d'oeuvre.

Also, many guests would be expecting alcohol during this time period. So, this is an issue as well.

A mid-morning or early afternoon wedding and reception would solve that problem.

Best wishes,
