What time to host cocktail wedding reception?

We are getting married in Las Vegas in Sept. Two weeks later, we plan on having a 4 hour informal cocktail reception with hors d'oeuvres in Chicago (where we live) on a Saturday. What time should the wedding reception start? 3:00 or 4:00?

thanks.

Normally any time that encompasses the dinner hour, your guests would expect a meal. I would start earlier at 3 so that the guests can leave for a 7 pm dinner after the reception.

I completely agree. As hosts, we should always consider our guest's comfort as our first priority.
