how many can we expect to accept wedding reception
My mother and I are planning the wedding. We have figured just about everything except this one thing; how may people will show? I found an equation a while ago that said if you invite "x", "y" will most likely show, but I lost it! I have 100 invitations going out for a total of 220 people. My grandmother is making my cake and a very close friend has a small catering deal and is serving whatever I buy. How much should I buy for? Thanks a million!!!

I have heard mention of the "equation", but frankly, I didn't commit it to memory because I don't think it's reliable. You wouldn't want to rely on some silly made up equation for your wedding day. I don't know about you, but I'm not a fan of surprises when it comes to wedding planning.
Be safe: If you can wait until all have responded then please do so. If you can't wait then plan for everyone you invited to show and then make ammends when you know for sure. Top Wedding Questions Forum Moderator - "Write your sorrows in the sand, your blessings in stone".

I guess that's a pretty good point. If that is my case, how long should I give folks to respond if the big day is august 13? What date would be good for the response cards?

The etiquette books will tell you to list the RSVP date for two weeks before your wedding date but you can give them as much as a month before. That should give you plenty of planning time. Top Wedding Questions Forum Moderator - "Write your sorrows in the sand, your blessings in stone".
