I am getting married in October and we would like to have a cocktail reception because it would be cheaper than a sit down meal and we are paying for everything.
My question is about the food itself. I have had some ideas from caterers about food choices but I don't know what we should do. Is there anyone out there who has had a cocktail reception and could maybe give me some suggestions or tell me what you did?

My daughter is having a cocktail reception but it isn't cheaper but it depends what you have. This is what we have picked for an August wedding of 250 people for 3 hours is $30 a person. That included the some of the tablecloths ,dishes ,glasses and silverware.
crab stuffed mushrooms
smoked salmon board with bagels
salmon mouse english cucumber
spinach dip with crackers
hot shrimp dip with breadsticks
baked brie with cranberry chutney
cheddar raspberry torte
3 story gourmet cheese displays
fresh south american fruit display
3 story vegetable display
spring rolls with peanut sauce
petite roll sandwiches
empanadas with dipping sauce
This way all the picky eaters can find something to eat.
We will also be having the wedding cake and a treat table with 10 different help your candies and cashew on the tables. And plenty of booze.
