mother/daughter dance rather than father/daughter dance

My father and I are estranged and he will not be attending my wedding. I really want to have a mother/daughter dance as opposed to the traditional father/daughter dance. Is this too odd?

Although not traditional, I think it would be a fun and enjoyable tribute to your mother. Go for it!

I couldn't agree more. All of these dances are optional any way. So, there really is no reason not to create new ones.
