     outdoor reception in small yard

My son is getting married in our back yard which is on the water. FB is trying to determine whether or not to have tables at reception. The wedding is at 4:00 pm and reception to follow with heavy hors d'oeuvres and about 100 guests. There will be seating for all guests but because the yard is so small we are unable to provide tables for everyone. Should we try and squeeze enough tables in and let everyone watch the ceremony from the tables? The reception will last about 2 1/2 hours and then an after party is being held at a local club.

Dear Apb,

Guests will expect to be fed a meal for an event hosted at this time. So, your hors d'oeuvres would have to be very substantial. And, they would expect to be seated at some point. So, tables are best. Perhaps your daughter will have to trim her guest list.

Also, please note that if the couple is inviting guests to an after party, they are expected to pay for it. Hosts always pay for their guests.

Best wishes,
