proper to serve hors d'ouevres for a wedding reception?

Is it okay to just have hors d'ouevres all night instead of a sit down dinner at my wedding reception? I am thinking of a casual reception - cocktail party style with a variety of appetizers being provided throughout the duration of the party.

Dear Cinstres,

If your reception will be after 6 pm you should plan a meal for your guests.

Hi Nancy, I also had this question. I read this q & a but was wondering if it would be ok to just serve hors d'oevres if the ceremony was in the evening, like 7pm or 7:30. Couldn't I word the invitations something like this?: Ceremony at 7:00pm,
Evening Reception at 8:00
Cocktails and Hors d'oevres will be served
Or is this tacky too? Even if we had a large spread with shrimp and seafood platters, etc.? Maybe even include an ice sculpture!?
