I am having my wedding reception at a park on a lake. The building is a gorgeous "pavilion" with two separate sides enclosed with many large glass windows, it is a historical site and very beautiful. When I booked the site, I only booked one half which can accomodate 150 people. The other half can fit 400, and I did not see the reason to pay double when I would not be using it. However, I did ask the site to let me know if anyone else was interested, so that I could book it and prevent another reception from happening at the same time. Well, the site refused my request and booked another reception (and ceremony!!) on the same day as my wedding. I booked the site 7 months ago, the other bride booked 5 months ago, and the date is this October. I found out last week when the park director called and told me that the other girl was having her ceremony there as well. The other bride is apparently not concerned about having 2 receptions there, she is even having the ceremony at the park! I am just worried about people going into the wrong reception, bands playing music at inappropriate times, her wedding being fancier than mine and overshadowing it, etc, etc. What do I do now?? I don't want to have to share!!!

Dear Doesn't Want to Share,
This is common for public venues. So, it would appear as if you only have two options, stay with your plans or find a new venue.
Perhaps you can find out where the other bride wants to set up her band or DJ and you can set yours up as far away as possible from hers. Perhaps you could also set up a sign of some sort to define your reception site. This may help others find the correct site.

I agree. You only have the two choices and Rebecca has given you a few other things to consider. If you choose to stay where you are, put up signs to direct your guests to your wedding and focus on enjoying your day. Rhonda Allen, Bridal Consultant New Beginnings Weddings

Thank you for your advice! I think once the suprise of the other party wore off, I realized that it was not such a big deal (now if I could only get my fiancee to realize this...) :)
