My future daughter-in-law recently attended a wedding where they displayed the mother of the bride's wedding dress on a mannequin. She liked the idea, and I want to be supportive, but need to understand why this is done. People are going to ask about the significance.

Re: [DawnMissory] Displaying mother of the bride wedding dress

Dear DawnMissory,
I haven't a clue and find it a bit odd. But, this could be a cultural or regional tradition.
Personally, I wouldn't do it. It just seems, well, odd. The wedding isn't about the parents any more. We aren't handing our daughters to someone who will 'take' care of them. We aren't paying and inviting all of our friends. So, it isn't about us.

The theme at my friend's wedding was family weddings. She had her Mom's gown, her Dad's tux, the Mother of the groom's gown, her grandmother's gown and various other wedding memorabilia was used to decorate the tables. It was very different from anything I had ever seen but seemed to work. The wedding attire was displayed on mannequins as well.
