Is it rude to display a card box at wedding reception?

I have a card box for our reception. We are a couple that has been living together and we have everything we already need for a house and our guest are aware of that. Plus we live in Idaho and are having the wedding in California. We have a wishing well card box, we are puttin tags on the tables so everyone can write us a message, but it will also be used for cards with money etc. Is this appropriate? I read that it is rude to have a card box at the reception?

Thank you

Jen

Dear Jen,

Yes, it is considered tacky and impolite to have a card box at your reception. It is like asking for donations, or charging an admission, or like saying that you didn't receive enough gifts and want their cash now--very negative. I have heard all of these comment about the wishing well box.

All gifts should be shipped to your home, so shipping them home shouldn't be a problem. If some gifts are given to you at the reception, which is common in many parts of California, you will have to ship them home.

Best wishes,
