Wedding decorations for a rainbow wedding

I am planning my sept 2006 wedding. My bridesmaids will be wearing different color dresses but same style. The dress colors I am thinking about having are pale pink, baby blue, pale yellow, and a pale green. I was wondering about decorations...what colors would i have? Would i just have white balloons and streamers, white linens for the tables, and so on. Because I was just thinking if I had different color balloons, table cloths, and napkins, it might look more like a birthday party then a wedding. What do you think? Any suggestions will be appreicated. :o)

Dear Croswell:

Your are right about the balloons. It could easily resemble a birthday party and not a wedding. Also, if you are having a semi- or formal affair, you want to make sure your decorations represent that. Perhaps you should consider candles and mirrors to add the color. One nice (and very inexpensive) touch would be to add floating flowers on each table (one flower, inside a bowl of water) that represents a color of your bridesmaids dresses. Set the vase atop the mirrors.

Or, get a 9" cylinder vase, fill it half way with water. Add a floating wick holder inside and light it. Have a different setting on each table. Again, set them atop a mirror. You could also sprinkle pastel rose petals (silk) around the centerpiece. Or, add smaller colored votive candles with the larger cylinder vase. You get the most amazing effect for very little. Especially, when you can turn down the lights in the reception venue.

As for the linen, for color you cold use white linens and maybe rent a complementing overlay for each table. Or, add chair covers to the chairs and select a matching organza bow(s).

I hope this helps you.
