If you have any friends who live in the country, consider asking them for some wild grape vine which can be as small as 1/4" in diameter up to 2" thick or more. Or a lot of craft stores carry the product.
Grape vine makes a wonderful base for decorating, as it can be twisted and run lengthwise with matching ribbon from your color scheme, hung in swags, or curved into wreaths. It's strong enough to support the weight of hanging objects, and can also be used to create romantic arbors, perfect for picture taking during the reception.
Depending on the time of year, see if you can get the tall ornamental dried grasses with seed heads or wheat sheaths. Don't forget live ferns or live moss on bark, that could be used as centerpieces. Wild violets can be found not only in purple, but yellow as well. Copen Cabana DJ Audio Visual Production providing Custom Wedding Coffee Table Photo Book with DVD Services http://www.knowareland.com
Hi...Sorry it took me a while to respond! I love the look of tall straight birch branches in a glass cylinder vase. you can hang tea lights among the branches and it feels like you are walking in the woods. For a bit of color just put a few loose dramatic flowers at the base among votive candles and you are set to go. A touch of soft fern in the votive cups adds an earthy touch and some texture. It's all easy , cheap and elegant!!!! You can get birch branches from the woods or a wholesale flower supplier for light money and cylinder vases at most craft departments. Have fun. Thank you both for your wonderful ideas... keep them coming if you have any more!!! I love the idea, flowersue, about the birch tree branches... but do you think they would be too obstructive? I don't want people having to look around the centerpieces to see each other...
Just to add another element to this "woodsy" themed reception.. its also has a twist of Colonial feel to it as well.. not overboard low.. very low key on the Colonial aspect
Thanks again!
