I am planning a very informal beach wedding in Nags Head, NC. However, I am planning a very formal reception in my home town. I need some ideas for decorations and centerpieces. I do not want any beach pails or fish. I would like to keep it very formal and pretty, not cheesy. Any ideas? (Right now my colors are ivory, sand, and ocean blue.)
Well, cheesy is really a matter of opinion but I'll try to offer some suggestions for beach themed wedding decorations -- hopefully not cheesy.
Beach Wedding Theme Centerpiece Ideas:
Beautiful crystal plates mounded with seashells with a pillar candle placed in the center can make a simple, yet elegant, centerpiece. Sand can be used in the bottom as an alternative or addition to the shells.
Consider using the colors of the sea and sand for your reception, by having silk floral arrangements accented by dried grasses (much like the sea oats that help keep the beach dunes from blowing away). If you are of an environmental mind, add informational laminated placards describing the flora and fauna of Nags Head that can later be used to protect table tops from moisture ladened glasses.
Another centerpiece idea could be large (3 wicks) ivory colored candles embedded with real shells, interesting yet elegant and keeping with the theme. Custom carved candles using your primary colors and your names in silver would be very elegant.
Your choice of colors lends itself well to formal elegance. Consider using pearl rope garland, similar to what is used on christmas trees, to accent the tables.
