     hippie wedding

I want to have a hippie/beachy type wedding. I have booked my reception and ceremony on a beach in CT. it will be a very laid back fun wedding. I have a lot of beach theme items for the wedding but I am having a hard time figuring out how to add a little hippie flare without going over board and scaring my family and quests! If it were up to me I would have it very hippie like but I don't think either my fiance's family or my family would like this very much. I know it's "Our Day" but I have to think of our family(who by the way is paying for it). I did buy my dress but how should I do my hair to reflect my hippie style? what subtle decorations can i mix with the beachy stuff I have in mind? Please any suggestions or websites would help!

SmileWell that's a fun question -- and since I was an original hippie/flower child I can answer with a bit of authority. I do think that the flowers are a good place to incorporate this part of your personality into the wedding. What about flowers in your hair with ribbons trailing or threaded through your hair? Keep your hair and makeup pretty natural. Gerber daisies would be a perfect flower to convey the casual look you would like. Can you have a flower girl or your bridesmaids toss petals? A classic hippy look for the tables would be a pair of gerbers in a pretty bright bottle . Maybe to go with the beach include starfish and shells around the base and a few votive candles in colored glass cups. To really make a statement you might consider wearing sandals. A few weddings I have worked on have had flip flops as the party favors...one even had the couples names and "a perfect pair" tied on....A bit silly but everybody laughed! Other things to consider are colorful funky linens, beaded napkin rings, puka shell necklaces, maypole like streamers or beaded curtains. Incense might be fun during dancing (but definitely not dinner.) Good luck! Have a great wedding and a lot of fun with these plans.

Consider a "bare foot wedding", since you'll be at the beach. Personalized beach umbrellas would make a nice party favor/gift. Don't forget large colorful beach towels for people to sit or stretch out on afterwards. Flowing cotton dresses and floppy hats...hmmm. For a little fun, get everyone matching sun glasses. Lots of choices!
