want tropical flowers but fave color is navy blue!
FH and I met in the tropics and love the idea of incorporating tropical flowers and greenery into a theme somehow, since it ties to how we met. We want it to be elegant, so we're thinking of adding candles (etc..ideas?) for ambiance. We don't want the typical tiki torch and beach sandollar theme. The problem is my fave color is navy blue and I'd love to incorporate this in there somehow. Our reception site is a blank slate, beige all over, with chaircovers and bows included, but unfortunately they are in ivory as well. Due to budget constraints, the main source of my fave color will be the bridesmaids dresses, and even as I write this, I worry that tropical flowers with green foliage, and navy blue dresses will clash. Is there a way to make this work? Thanks in advance for any help and ideas you can provide. Haven't landed on a florist or bm dresses so still open to suggestions. Just hope to work it out somehow...

Well, there are not a lot of truly blue flowers. The only tropical flowers that come to mind are bird of paridise with their blue "tongues." A great way to pull in the blue might be with cobalt glasswear. Why not consider something like tall blue cylinder vase with a couple of dramatic tropical flowers and long beargrass with ti leaves. For the candles get all sorts of assorted blue vases and votive cups and use a combination of floating and votive candles. A few well strewn single dendrobium orchid flowers in and among the candles would polish the look up nicely. I've babbled enough! Hope this gives some wings to your thoughts. Have a great time planning and a perfect wedding day!!! With a structural base of nice glasswear (like I have suggested)it might be fun to use a few different combinations of flowers in the centerpieces. For instance a pair of salmon ginger flowers for some tables, Bird of paradise for some and long orchid sprays for others. I find that refraining from mixing too many together is usually more effective. With nice navy dresses and accents in other areas you will have a great start. Let the vivid colors of the tropical flowers be your pop. Ginger comes in red and salmon, Birds are orange, pink and blue, orchids can be obtained in lime with purple throats, deep purple , pink and white,(among others.) This will look great...and navy and ivory make a great basis for the POPof tropical colors (Not clash!!!!think positive...) Try to find a florist with a bit of flair. Be sure they feel comfortable about tropicals. They need to be treated a bit differently to let their unique beauty stand up. Sue of Hobart's Fine Florals http://www.hobartsfineflorals.com
