Bride wants to only provide unlimited alcohol to wedding party, guests wil pay
We would like for anyone who wants champagne to have one glass for the first big toast and then only provide champagne for the wedding party afterwards. There will be a cash bar set up so that whoever wants more alcohol will have to pay for it themselves but there will be nonalcoholic beverages available at no charge. Is this appropriate?

Dear Sarah in Pueblo,
In so many ways this is not appropriate and stated so in many of our posts and every etiquette book written. The simple rule is: you invite, you pay. And, to expect guests to pay for the party is not polite or fair. They shouldn't have to open their wallets ever. This is especially impolite when the bridal party is treated as special. Your guests are 'guests' and they should be treated as very special.
Please only host the party you can afford to host.
Cash bars are an absolute no-no and even worse than money trees.
