Is it appropriate for just the bridal party to have champagne during the toasts?

Is it appropriate for just the bridal party to have champagne during the toasts?

Our guest list is almost at 200. Originally, bride and groom were going to be the only two with champagne....but we want to include the bridal party as well. We cannot afford to supply the entire reception with champagne, and several of the family members will not drink any alcohol. Our reception ballroom will have the entire bridal party seated on the stage. Would it be tacky to just serve champagne to the bridal party? and how do you announce to everyone else to grab a glass of something other than what bridal party is having? Would we be better off with sticking to just the bride and groom with the real stuff?

Thanks in advance for any advice!!

Dear Downtothewire,

It would be better for no one to have sparkling wine rather than the bridal party or the couple. The bridal party is already on a stage, which separates all of you from all of your guests. By only offering sparkling wine to those on stage it is in effect separating everyone into the haves and the have nots, the stars and the supporting players. It is not very polite.

Best wishes,
