Is the mother of the bride expected to make a toast or speech
Is the mother of the bride expected to make a toast or speech. Is it appropriate for it to be very brief. I am not unsociable but hate public speaking. Also, is it required at the rehearsal dinner as well as the reception, or can I leave that to my husband. Thank you.

Usually, at the reception, the best man, the parents of the bride and groom, then the groom make toasts. At the rehearsal dinner, toasts are made by the host (traditionally the groom's parents) first. After that the floor is open to anyone who may want to speak. You, as the mother of the bride, aren't necessarily expected to speak so, yes, you can leave it to your husband. Rhonda Allen, Bridal Consultant New Beginnings Weddings
