Mentioning groom's deceased father in wedding speech

My son is soon to marry and I have been asked to make a speech. My husband is deceased. I need help with what to say in my speech. Do I mention the groom's father who passed away 2 years ago?

Dear Bunji,

It is appropriate to mention him as long as it isn't the focus of the speech. For example, you could mention that your belated husband would be very happy today. There are quite a few books about wedding speeches that may be helpful for you. Or, see Top Wedding Toasts and Speeches.

Best wishes,
