     Non-alcohol toasting at Rehearsal Dinner

I am the Mother of the Groom, and hosting the rehearsal dinner. There will be no alcohol served, but the kids would like to have "toasts". It is a VERY informal Mexican Fiesta theme in the church fellowship hall. The atmosphere will be very playful and fun, as both families already know one another and are good friends. We are in rural Alabama, and live our lives very casually. We are expecting up to 100 at the rehearsal dinner. Is it acceptable to "toast" with our sweet tea in our plastic Solo cups? Or should we get some imitation bubbly and "fancy" plastic stemware?

Dear MOG,

You don't need any other glasses. That will be fine. But, 100 at your rehearsal dinner seems a bit over the top. This isn't supposed to be like a reception. This is supposed to be a time to gather your thoughts for the wedding, tie up loose ends, and for the couple to give gifts to their attendants.

Best wishes,
