Recently Divorced Parents & Their Toast

Hi all!

My fiance's parent's recently got a divorce and I want them to do a toast at the wedding, how do I go about this properly? I think (and hope) that they can be civil enough to each other for the duration of the day but I think it might be a bit too much to handle for them to write a toast together....please help me....

thank you in advance!! later...

Hi Kim,

This is definitely too much to ask of your fiance's parents to write a speech together.

If you want both of them to speak, they can do separate speeches. You might even have one speech at the Rehearsal Dinner and one at the Reception. Or you could just go with the traditional "Father of the Groom" speech.

But before you decide, talk to your fiance. He knows his parents and might be able to give you some insight on what would be best in this sticky situation.

Dear Toasts,

I completely agree. It would be so awkward for your parents to write something together. It is usually best to keep them apart.

Best wishes,
