My 22 year old son will be getting married in June and finally decided to ask our youngest daughter's boyfriend to be his best man. This young man is 17 years old and feels very honored to have been asked! He, however, is too nervous to make the toast!
The other man my son had considered asking is truly his best friend, but is the same age as his father. ( 48)My son and his bride-to-be have decided to ask the older gentleman to make the toast. ( but not to be part of the wedding party)
Have you ever heard of this type of arrangement before?

Re: [sweetbee1] Someone else making the toast?

Dear Sweetbee,
I haven't heard of this before, but there really is no reason why it can't be done if the man wishes to give the toast. The best man speech would just be skipped.
It shouldn't be called anything but a toast though. This would simply be a toast by someone who cares.
