     Son of groom speech

Hi there,

I am 23 and my father is having his second marriage at the beginning of next month and has said that I am more than welcome to give a short speech if I wish. I would love to do this but have no idea what to say having not been to any weddings since childhood and certainly having never given a speech! The wedding is fairly informal and I believe that I am not the only other speaker in addition to the traditional father of the bride, groom, best man etc. I am also reading a sonnet in the ceremony. Any suggestions or ideas with regards the speech would be gratefully received!

Thanks,

Lee

Dear Lee,

This would have to be from the heart--yours. So, it should be your words. But, there are many suggestions in most wedding etiquette books. There are even books about wedding speeches. That helps. Beyond that, mention your relationship with your father, perhaps how the two of them met, and how happy they are together.

Best wishes,
