Wedding speech when mother of the bride is deceased

The mother of the groom is deceased and we are unsure who should be refered to in the wedding speeches.

Should it be the FOB, who welcomes the families?

Or should it be the groom?

thanks for your help

Dear Speeches,

Anyone can be referred to in speeches. However, it would be best when referring to someone who has passed to keep the reference short.

It would be the groom if you two are hosting and the father of the bride if the bride's parents are hosting. Although, many times it can be the best man.

Best wishes,
