how to address wedding reception guests during speech

As the father of the bride I will be making a short speech to the bride. Do I introduce myself to the guests and, if so, how do I address them before I direct my comments to my daughter, the bride, and her husband?

Hi Clemkonan,

Will the DJ or MC be introducing you before you give your speech? If yes, you won't need to re-introduce yourself. But if not, then you will want to introduce yourself, even though all the guests most likely know who you are.

Here's an example opening:

"Good evening! My name is ______, and I am the bride's father. I'd like to start by thanking everyone for celebrating with us tonight, especially those who have traveled long distances to be with us tonight.

(now you can direct comment towards your daughter, or tell the guests a little about her)"

If the MC does introduce you, simply leave out the second sentence.

Best of luck!
