3 Key Questions with Engagement Ring

Hi everyone! Thanks for reading my post.

Q1. If my girlfriend has suggested she would like to choose the ring together, would it be wrong to surprise her buy buying (also choosing) the ring myself and giving it to her before she expects it?

Q2. If I just go and buy a ring from a place like Tiffany and Co, what happens if the ring isn't the exact finger measurements to my girlfriend? There is a big difference in finger sizes right, so what if it's loose or so tight it's unwearable?

Q3. Where should I buy the diamond ring? I feel a place like Tiffany and Co give me the optimal design, worksmanship, or be it at a higher cost. Where are good reliable places to buy? How does everyone feel about Tiffany and Co? Do people cringe because it's so 'hollywood'?

Thanks to you all, your help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Jyan:

A1 - Some brides are okay with being surprised, even if they express othewise. Others are not. Before you buy the ring without her, casually ask her how'd she feel if you did. That'll give your answer.

A2- Jewelers usually offer free sizing so if the ring doesn't fit, she can take it back to the store and have it sized.

A3 - As for where you should purchase the ring, this is a personal style choice. You should look at the style, clarity, color, carat and cost of Tiffany and Co.'s engagement rings in comparison to other companies in your area. Then make your decision on what you have been able to see.

Congratulations!

I completely agree on all accounts, but just have a bit to add.

Your girlfriend "suggested" that you two buy the ring together. This is a big hint. So, please follow Rhonda's suggestion before buying this by yourself. I know that I wouldn't want my husband to have picked out my ring without me. I want to wear this ring forever, so it should be something I like.

Plus, Rhonda had a wonderful idea about doing your research before buying. There are some wonderful jewelry websites that teach about diamonds and precious stones. You might want to do quite a bit of research before taking out the credit card.

Best wishes,
