Care for and soldering wedding rings

Just 2 quick questions, (and PS this is a great site, love all the good advice!):

1. I have an engagement ring that has 4 invisibly set princess cut diamonds which give the illusion of a diamond solitaire and will be having a wedding band that has 2 rows of prong set round diamonds across the front. Both rings are set in white gold. Does anyone have suggestions for daily care and cleaning I can do at home? I already know about periodically taking the ring to my jeweler for steam cleaning and checking settings, etc. Just wondering if there is anything I can do at home to keep them sparkling and shiny.

2. For the above mentioned rings; must I have them soldered together for wear and tear? Which is preferrable; pros and cons appreciated! Much thanks! Smile

A little jewelers secret to cleaning your rings at home - fill a cup halfway with warm water; add one tablespoon of liquid dish soap and a one tablespoon of ammonia. Place jewelry on a small clean towel on a flat surface. Use an old tooth brush with a back and forth brushing motion across the jewelry until it is clean. Rinse with warm water. It should look like new.

Your question about soldering the two rings together is a personal choice. There is no additional wear or tear if the rings are soldered together or not.The day may come when you will want to have the rings taken apart and you will incur additional expenses. Good Luck,

I love this formula for cleaning my ring. I think it is even better than what I got from the jeweler. Is it safe for all metals, or just gold?
