     Diamond for ring?

My boyfriend and I really want to get married. Right now, money is a little tight and engagement rings are a bit too expensive. I have a ring that my grandmother had given me that has several large diamonds. I don't wear the ring because the setting is not me and doesn't fit. Would it be inappropriate for my boyfriend to buy a setting and for me to supply the diamond?

Dear Wingfav,

No worries. The engagement ring is optional. But, if you two would like for you to have one, then your plan is perfect. You could even use it for your wedding ring.

Best wishes,
