Do I need a wedding band?

Hi there! I have a beautiful 1.5 carat antique diamond engagement ring! It's just wonderful. There isn't a wedding band that exactly goes with it, but we can have one designed. I'm not sure what to do? Do I need a wedding band, what do you believe? It will be soooo much bigger with one of course, and I think it's a good size already. Can I wait for an anniversary gift? What are your thoughts! Thank you!!!

Dear Heavy Ring,

That is one big rock! Congratulations.

The engagement ring is the ring most thought of as optional. The wedding ring for women is generally thought of as necessary.

So, you could wear this on your left hand and switch it to your right hand when you get married and wear your wedding ring on your left hand. Or, there is a foreign tradition in which you wear your engagement ring on your right hand and switch it to your left hand when you are married.

Best wishes,
