     Engagement and wedding rings

I'm about to propose to my g/f of over 6 years. I'm still young so I don't know a lot about this stuff. Do I need to get an engagement ring and then a wedding ring? About how much do they usually cost? thanks

Dear Larry:

Typically, the Groom-to-be selects an engagement ring and offers it at the time of proposal. I would venture to say most women probably expect one. That being said, you should discuss this with your Fiance. Ask her what she'd like. She may want a ring or she may opt to put the money toward the wedding.

As for how much an engagement ring can cost, that depends greatly on the size, clarity and cut of the gem. The gauge for cost used to be two months salary. Now, it is totally up to what you choose to spend and can afford.

Lastly, you will need to purchase a wedding ring for the wedding day.

I hope this helps.
