Gold engagement ring, silver wedding band?

Help! I have a family heirloom gold engagement ring, I really like silver jewelry(all of my other rings are silver). Can I have a silver wedding band with my gold engagement ring?

Dear Irish Girl,

Etiquette "wise" it is fine. I'm not sure about it being fashion forward. But, I have noticed more and more people mixing the two. For me, I would wear the pieces I love, that mean something to me, and not worry about it as long as it isn't offensive to others. Smile

Best wishes,

To answer from a jeweler's perspective, one thing to keep in mind is that silver does tarnish and gold generally does not. That is why gold is most often used for wedding bands because of its long-term wear and tear abilities. You can also polish gold rings very easily and refurbish them to look new decades after a purchase.
