     Heirloom Engagement Ring

I recently was given an engagement ring from my fiancé which belonged to his great great grandmother. The Diamond was in the care of his grandmother and she had it recut and set for my fiancé. I love the ring and I could not be happier. My question is how I should thank his Grandparents. I spoke with them on the phone immediately after it happened and told them thank you and how beautiful I thought the ring is. Is it appropriate or expected that I send a thank you note or anything else? Or do I treat this as a gift from my fiancé? I just don’t want anyone to think we are ungrateful for all they have done for us.

Dear Eee,

It is a gift from your fiance, but it is also a gracious gift from the grandmother. So, it would be best for both of you to send separate thank you notes.

Best wishes,
