     Heirloom Ring

I am ready to propose to my girlfriend. She had told me several times that she wants to wear her Great Aunt's wedding ring. In fact she gave it to me in advance of my proposal and I and have it now. When I do propose to her, should I present her with the ring or buy a separate engagement ring?

The only necessary ring is the wedding band which you'll place on your bride's finger during the ceremony. You can buy an engagement ring and save the grandmother's wedding band for the ceremony or you can present the grandmother's ring and save it for the ceremony. Of course, you don't have to present her with any ring at all. You could choose to give her a bouquet or some other significant gift. What's more important is the way the gift is delivered. Make it special.

The wedding band should not be worn until you slip it on her finger at the wedding.
