How to trust jeweler to set diamond into ring?

Hi there,

I have my own diamond that i would like to use on an engagement ring that i have bought from a store(family owned for over 20+ yrs). I have talked to the jeweler and they said that when the ring comes in, i will have to drop off my diamond in order for them to put it onto the ring. (process will take about 1-2 days)

I hate the idea of giving them the diamond and not knowing if they will switch/change it even though they have shown me the diamond under the microcope. Is there any secure way to handle this process? I know back in the days, the jeweler was able to put the diamond onto the ring right in front of you. I have called a few shops, and all of them said that they have to keep the diamond in order to do this process.

Thanks,

Hi, there are still jewelers out there that will set your diamond in your setting while you wait for it, you probably need to make a few more phone calls until you find one who will accommodate you, they are out there. Good luck

Take the ring to be appraised. Then you can have it appraised again after you get it back to be sure it is the same stone.
