Is there a tactful way to tell my fiance what I really want is a new ring

I'm not into flashy jewelry and my fiance knew it, so he proposed with a beautiful simple ring: black titanium band with slender double scored lines inlaid with white titanium. I absolutely love it, but I still want a diamond. He thought I wanted no diamond, but the trick was to find one of an appropriately size and mounting to fit my personality. The band I have now is more like a wedding band and I wouldn't mind wearing it as a wedding band. i'm wearing on my right hand since we're not married yet and it looks like a wedding band for sure - it seems inappropriate. iIve looked up rings in the same style family and found one that I think is perfect. Is there a tactful way to tell my fiance what I really want without hurting his feelings? If I get the new diamond ring, what should I do with the current ring until the wedding? And how would I wear the diamond engagement ring after the ceremony? (neither ring would look good worn paired with another.) please help!

Dear Wants the Diamond,

Poor men. They really do try, but it is best for both members of the couple to shop together. It was nice of him to give you something that reflects your personality though. This is very sweet.

Most probably the best way to approach this is to be very honest with him that you really want a diamond in a simple mounting. The more both of you are completely honest, the closer you become.

Some women in other countries wear their rings on the right hand and some may wear the engagement ring on one hand and move it to the other after the vows. So, we can borrow a tradition that suits us. Perhaps you could wear your engagement ring on your left hand until your vows and move it to your right hand. You could put your wedding ring up until the wedding or wear it on your right hand. But, it would be best not to wear it until your wedding.

Best wishes,
