     No engagement ring

I have informed my fiance that I do not desire an engagement ring (he, of course, is thrilled). I would, however, like a diamond eternity band as my wedding ring. We are both fine with this, but it seems to baffle everyone else that we are "engaged", but I do not have a ring. As long as we are fine with this, is it okay? Are there any reasons why we should be more traditionally engaged? I don't really like the idea of wearing my wedding bank as an engagement ring. I want the giddy feeling of getting it during the ceremony. Thanks!

Dear Giddy,

You are fine. The ring is optional. Some in the past have even worn a necklace.

Best wishes,
