     Remounted engagement ring

I have been engaged for 6 months and my fiance bought and picked out my ring on his own. We had been ring shopping for the last couple of months and I had really liked a wider setting and wedding band, but my fiance said he liked a smaller, more dainty setting. I have long fingers so I felt the wider setting would look better. The problem is, he bought me an engagement ring and wedding ring set with a smaller setting. While I love the engagement ring, I'm not crazy about the wedding ring (shadow band). The engagement ring also has a unique design and it would be almost impossible to get a wedding band with diamonds in it that would fit flush to my engagement ring. I asked him if I could change it the other day and he said it would be okay. I made a huge mistake however, and got the entire ring remounted in a different engagement ring setting to fit in a wrap. He was hurt when I told him (along w/ his parents, siblings, etc) and I am now feeling more guilty than ever that I changed this, even though he said he was okay with it.

Should I go back to the jewelers to exchange my ring back to it's original setting and get a custom wedding band instead? My fiance says he is okay with my "new" ring, but I get the feeling he really isn't.

Dear Remounting Regret,

This is a personal decision that only you can make. If you changed it back, he would still know what you did and that you were unhappy with his choice. So, it really doesn't change anything.

This is one of the biggest reason most of us suggest to men to shop for rings with their bride.

Best wishes,
