Ring that doesn't require a band

What is the proper etiquette for a ring that doesn't require or look right with a wedding band. Should the ring be given back until the ceremony or can it be worn during the egagement period.

Do you mean you are using the engagement ring as the wedding band? If so, then you would hold off wearing the ring until the ceremony.
