My boyfriend and I are having my wedding ring made. My old wedding rings have been sitting in the safety deposit box for years. I was married in 1987 and paid $1500 for the rings. The jeweler said they would give us $400.00 off the price of the new ring if we trade it in. I have tried to sell it at other jewelers but no one seems interested. I don't want to bother with Ebay. I have been with my boyfriend for 6 years and basically- his money will be my money and mine will be his. He is buying the ring but ultimately it still will be "our" money. He doesn't mind trading it in at all and said it is up to me. The new wedding ring is about $3000.00 and the $400.00 off would help. Is it tacky to trade in my old wedding set and use it for the new ring? What should I do?

Dear Trading it the Old for the New,
I see nothing wrong with this. The rings could be of use to someone else. Why not trade them in? It makes perfect sense to me.
