I'm an engaged woman in TX and am confused about etiquette. My fiance' was previously engaged and got the ring back, etc. When he proposed to me, I found out later that it's the SAME ring that he gave her!! Is this right? Or .. am I overreacting? I don't want this ring because it seems so strange. What's proper?

I have to agree with you. I would not want a ring that was used to propose to another woman. Discuss your feelings with your fiance. I think if you told him that every time you looked down at your hand you would think of him and his former fiance, or that he might think of her when looking at your hand, he might understand better. Men often think practically rather than emotionally. Perhaps he could sell the old ring and the two of you could shop for a new ring together. ConfusedInTexas,
I have to say as a man and a jeweler both, the thought of "re-cycling" a wedding ring upsets me! It's just too symbolic a part of your life together.
However, as TWQadmin eloquently suggested, selling the "old" ring and purchasing a new one together sounds ideal. Men can be less sentimental, so don't take it out on him too much. What's more important is the start of your life together as "one". Afshin from Apples of Gold Jewelry Professional Jeweler
