Wearing a wedding band before the ceremony?

My boyfriend proposed to me yesterday (officially with the ring). It is a two piece set (engagement ring with matching diamond wedding band). He wants me to wear both right now because it makes the ring look nicer. I've always understood the proper etiquette to be that you wear the engagement ring until the wedding and then add the wedding band. Would it be acceptable to wear the band with the engagement ring with the wedding band on the outside of the engagement ring (engagement ring closest to heart for engagement...then put wedding band on the inside during the wedding and thereafter). Please let me know. Thanks!

Congratulations on your engagement but please wait until the ceremony for your fiance to slip the wedding band on your finger.
