Wedding band sizes - comfort band

I am getting a 3mm white gold plain wedding band comfort band and engagement ring and I've been reading they run a little bit bigger, yet some say they fit the same for them. My ring I have now is a size 4 and it's tight and hurts when I try to take it off. When I try to get it past my knuckle it takes a few seconds and hurts and bunches the skin on my knuckle as I try to take it off. I was going to originally get a 4 1/4 until I found out it's only a tiny difference, so now I am getting a 4 1/2. I know this will fit in a regular ring, but will it be too big in the comfort fit rings? Thanks.

Hi, Isis,

This really is a hard question to answer accurately without measuring you myself.

But the norm is that comfort fit bands fit a little looser -- usually by about a 1/4 or 1/2 size. So if you are a size 4 1/2 for example in a standard band, you may actually be a size 4 or 4 1/2 in a standard band.

It sounds to me that a 4 1/4 may be your best option, if your jeweler offers a 1/4 size. That's what I often recommend to our customers.

You should also find out if the ring you are purchasing can be re-sized. Some wedding bands can only be stretched and some cannot be sized up at all. With most of our rings, we can stretch them up a 1/2 size, but we cannot go down in size, so we often recommend going with the smaller size to begin and then getting it stretched later if it does not fit.

But these are excellent points to bring up to the jeweler that you are purchasing from. If they are a competent jeweler they should be able to guide you in the right direction, or at least offer you an exchange or sizing policy just in case.
