I really want a ruby solitaire engagement ring. I'm just not a diamond lover, but I like the gem solitaire look. Is it tacky to wear a ruby engagement ring? Also, although I like the look of rubies, I know nothing about them. I'm sure they are just as complicated as finding a good quality diamond. Any help on a ruby guide or even a good ruby vendor would be enormously helpful. I can't expect him to find his way to the perfect ruby engagement ring if I can't even find it myself!

I have made engagement rings with many different gem stones including rubies, colored gem stones look best designed in yellow gold. Good quality rubies are not hard to find if you have the right connection. Good luck. Anthony, Master jeweler, designer of wedding bands and engagement rings. http://www.designyourweddingrings.com

Dear Razorbackbelle,
There is no reason to limit your choices to diamonds. You can choose any stone you wish. No worries.
