     alternative to wedding ring

I am a chef which means I really don't wear rings since I work with food all day. As the Bride to be, I was wondering if there was an alternative to the wedding ring. I was left my Grandmother's ring and was considering using it for just the ceremony then maybe wearing a necklace (I can tuck in to my uniform) to wear daily. My Groom wants me to wear a piece of jewelry from him but I know everyone expects a ring for the wedding and I see no need for the expense in I can't wear it daily.

The chefs I've known have gone the traditional route, but have a special place that they leave their rings at home while they work. That said, you might see if he's comfortable with the necklace idea. If your grandmother's ring doesn't fit now, perhaps you could have it sized for you, and maybe add a plain band that coordinates. You could slip the pair on and off of your necklace for times when you aren't working when you might want to show off your married status. Just be sensitive to his thoughts, and I'm sure you'll come up with a good compromise.
